Using a 200 – 800mm Zoom

When people recommend a lens for Street Photography, the usual focal lengths discussed are 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm. Rarely is a telephoto zoom recommended. There is a good reason for this, it is a bloody stupid idea.

I had headed out to Sukhumvit at 4am, and took my trusty Sony A7iii. This full frame camera is great for the low light of the early hours. Just for fun I also threw in my OM5 with its stupidly large zoom lens (Leica 100-400). The ISO and Fstop had to be higher than I like, I struggled to get anything in focus, and stood out like a sore thumb. However, I captured the above photo, which I am quite happy with.

Not sure if I can use it for any long term projects as the eyes are not quite focused, but there you go. I still like it, and sometimes that’s enough. It was a silly idea to try Street Photography with this lens, but not so silly that I won’t try it again!
